How to Prepare Your Care Before Selling It in the UK
So you want to sell your car in the UK. Firstly, be aware that it's very much a buyer's market in the UK - there's so much choice out there when it comes to second hand cars, it's a good idea to make your car more of a proposition for purchase before you even put it on the market. So how to do that? The following assumes your car is in reasonable shape and you're hoping to get a minimum of £1000 for it, and your car is not a rust bucket on its last legs! Remember, these tips may cost you initially, but they will help raise the sale price of your car as well as help you sell it faster. Anyway, here are the tips:-
Get Your Car MOT and Serviced
If you've not MOT'd your car or had it serviced in the last 6 months, get it done again. I know an MOT is annual, but it's a LOT easier to sell a car that's been recently MOT'd. Servicing the car is a different thing to an MOT and in this check-up they look for
different areas of wear and tear that are less critical than the MOT - yet such a check-up and resulting repair work / maintenance will help lift the price of your car.
Make Sure Your Tax Disc Is Up To Date
If you're tax disc is about to run out, update it. It's a bit offputting for buyers to know the first thing they have to do with your car is buy a new tax disc for it.
Get It Fully Valeted
Next up, get a full valet done for your car. Why? For photos. After your car's been treated to a wax and a vacuum, get some photos taken of your car.
Take Many Photos
Photos are essential in 2010, because selling your car online is one of the easiest and quickest ways to make a sale. Most people looking for a 2nd hand car do so online now. So that means you're going to need some great photos of your newly valeted, MOT'd and serviced car. Take photos of front, rear, side, and interior.
Now Sell It Online
With all the above jobs done, now sell it online. Before you do so, check out the competition. What are the going prices based on car model, year, mileage, MOT etc? Don't outprice yourself, but don't compete solely on price either. Price isn't a dealbreaker for many people - many buyers are happy to pay a bit more if they trust you and you've done a good job on your car.
Show Signs Of Trust
Remember that most buyer's are fearful of being ripped off. If you can allay those fears, your car will be much easier to sell. This is why if you've done all of the above, most buyers will judge you to be conscientious and considerate to have gone to the bother of MOTing, taxing, servicing, valeting, and taking good photos of your car.
