Tips on Fuel Economy

Car fuel economy i s becoming more and more important these days, especially with a litre of petrol at around £1.10 in the UK. So how to make your car as economical as possible? Here are some tips:-

  • Check your tyre pressure. Too low, and it can cause more friction against the momentum of the car. The key here is NOT to over-inflate but keep the pressure at the levels suggested in your car manual
  • Get your car serviced if you haven't already. Don't just do an MOT - get your car serviced too. A well-tuned car is economical on fuel
  • Go easy on the air-con. If you're in the UK, you'll probably wonder what air-con is (joke) but air conditioning really is hungry for fuel so go easy with it
  • Don't drive with your windows down - drag factor
  • Avoid the rush hour if you can - the start and stop routine really hurts fuel economy something rotten
  • Accelerate slowly and keep your revs down
  • Check your boot for items that are just left there and not needed for your journey. Extra weight requires more fuel
  • Quit the short journies! use your bike or walk to your local shops - you'll get fitter as a bonus.

Follow theses tips and you'll be filling up a lot less at petrol stations.
