Windshield Repair Kit Did the Job
When travelling around Europe in my little Opel Corsa, one scare I had was a cracked windshield. I was travelling through Gmunden in Austria at the time which is a fairly remote area. Knowing nothing about cars, I thought I'd need to replace the windshield. My German wasn't very good but I did manage to locate a mechanics and he took a look at the shield, smiled, and took out a windshield repair kit and fixed it there and then. I was astounded. I couldn't thank the man enough - I thought I'd be there for a few hours, and with a big bill. The cost was a tiny amount, and I was on my way to Vienna moments later. I later found out about the technology behind such devices. Many chips and scratches on windshields can effectively be fixed with these devices, yet many people still get their windshields replaced which leads not only to their own insurance premiums going up, but a huge waste of glass that's never recycled again. I think more people should know about these repair kits because they really can save you a lot of time and money.
On another note, I did find my trip around Europe far easier than I thought it would be - simply due to the fact that English is so well spoken, particularly in Holland, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Denmark, Norway and Sweden. In the more southern countries like Spain and Italy it's less well spoken, but you can still get by using basic English. I know it's bad to rely on English but there's just so many languages spoken in Europe it's impossible to pick up even the basics of a dozen languages in just six weeks!
